WEEK 5 : SEMAINE 5
I hope you’ve been enjoying your French JK/SK lesson plans so far! This week we’re saying “Je peux” and “merci”, we’re learning about shapes, the weather, and more!
P.S. Be sure to watch the Parent Explanations French class this week as it has new details about a class library and a rewards system for speaking French. The marble jar can be found in Mme Amy’s virtual classroom!
Here’s a link with all the accompanying downloads for this week.
Extra Resources:
Click the link at the end of each weekly plan to access “Madame Amy’s classroom” for extra French resources and support related to the week’s plans.
This week’s focus:
Step 1. Watch the parent instructions video.
Step 2. Watch the parent & child video
Step 3. Complete this week’s task.
Step 4. Complete this week’s letters and words of the week activities.
Step 1. Parent Instructions Video
Step 2. Parent & Child Video
Step 3. This Week’s French Tasks:
“Je dis merci pour…”: Here’s a quick little Thanksgiving worksheet. Children can write something they’re thankful for, draw it, or glue a picture of it in the space.
Je peux: An optional task for those who are eager for a little French project.
- Make a “Je peux” book with photos of your child doing various things that they can do.
- By making the phrase relevant to them, and their activities, and by making them the main character of the book, this will be a very fun way to ensure they always remember how to say “Je peux”!
- You could use printed photos or try out the free book creator that I used to make our class book.
Step 4. Les lettres / mots de la semaine: Fun worksheets to practice our letters / words of the week:
MAKE IT FUN! <- click here to see different ways to complete this task
This week’s focus: Counting from 1 – 10 and shapes (les formes)!
No parent explanation video this week because I explain everything in the parent & child class.
Parent & Child Video
Task 1. We’re learning our French shapes! Go on a hunt around the house and see what shapes you can find.
Task 2. Les formes + imagination: Just like in the book read in class, let your child turn these shapes into something else!
Be sure to check out this week’s outdoor education section as you can most certainly take this week’s math learning outside!!
MAKE IT FUN! <- Fun ideas on how to practice your French counting
This week’s topic: La météo – the weather! No parent explanations video this week as it’s pretty self-explanatory!
Step 2. Parent & Child Video
This week’s science activity
Météo sur le dos: Weather on your back sensory activity for parents and children (or siblings!).
- This is a nice calming & bonding activity between parent & child. Use your new French vocabulary to play “la météo sur le dos”.
- Sensory activities really help solidify new learning.
Outdoor activities related to this week’s learning:
No need for a parent explanation video this week! These activities are pretty self explanatory.
Activity 1. Make shapes with items found in nature. Ex: use rocks, branches, leaves, etc. You could even take out some playdough and use the playdough to connect branches together.
Activity 2. Find rocks (des roches) of different shapes. You could even bring them back home and paint them!
When they find a shape, help them to say:
- “J’ai trouvé un _____” (I found a ______ <- insert shape)
Pron: “Jhay troo-vay uh _____”

Messages to Madame
If you would like to send me videos or photos of your child’s work / French practice, I would love to see it! I’ve found the easiest way is through instagram stories, posts, or even private message to our account. Not a fan of instagram? Not to worry! Feel free to send anything my way via email. Just note that sometimes photos/videos can be too large to send!
I will always do my best to respond asap to help encourage your little one 🙂
